A lot of things have changed over the many years since our parents were our age. If they were to experience the pressures and obstacles we face today, they would be surprised by how different life is compared to how it was when they were kids. There are a lot more choices to face now and different paths we can take. This is why we must have good ideals and be responsible for our actions and do what we feel is right. This is why I feel that our generation is more responsible in general, than our parent's generation. A broad statement like this requires explanation as to responsibilities in different areas in which it applies. .
My generation must deal with problems that our parents never had, as in the higher expectations to succeed in school. My dad was expected to pass all of his classes and my mom was expected to receive grades that seemed average in her time, which was reasonable compared to the average student. I understand that this was not true with all kids at my parents time but it was an example of how grades were not as important to the. But nowadays anything less than Honor Roll seems as if the student didn't try or was slacking off. Honors and AP classes seem as if they must be taken or else you are thought to be not as achieving as the other students and these above average expectations push us to succeed in areas we normally wouldn't. This isn't a problem in the fact we have smarter students, but it does give students a lot more responsibility with their school work and how to fit their schedule together with extracurricular activities and sports. The SAT's are a large determining factor that we must deal with and take classes to study for and we do many things just to prepare for this one test and in my parents time this test was not even existing. Along with the school expectations there are the sports that one third of all students take part in. .
Around the house I also have many responsibilities such as vacuuming and cleaning my room, and clearing the table after dinner and taking out the trash.
