Conflict Resolution


Inevitably conflict will occur, it is how the conflict is resolved that is the bigger issue. When conflict is handled properly it can be used to enhance the performance, promote creativity, stimulate ingenuity and bring the team closer together.
             Team conflict most commonly occurs because people feel like: .
             They have not been heard.
             Their concerns have not been addressed.
             Their ideas and input are not ranked among the proposed alternatives or.
             They feel they have been verbally abused, offended, or mistreated.
             Conflict often energizes the team to concentrate on appropriate issues, motivates team members to participate, learn, and benefit from team member's differences and helps raise and address problems within the team. Conflict can become an issue when morale lowers, causes inappropriate behavior, hinders productivity, and causes continued conflict. Poor communications, lack of notification of new decisions and decisions made without team members are some types of actions that can cause conflict with in a team. Stress can occur from working with inadequate or insufficient resources. A team is ineffective when the team members lack chemistry. The lack of a common language can result in a poor interaction between team members. The toughest goal in a team is trust. Team members must develop a common commitment to earn trust in one another and avoid alienation of team members. Team members could have conflicts in cultural diversity. A workday for one team member might be a religious holiday for another team member. Team members must also choose his or her words wisely. Constructive criticism could be misinterpreted as a personal attack. .
             Similar personalities can be detrimental to a team because those people, who are alike, will tend to agree with all of each other's ideas. If these similar personalities are the majority in a team, a majority rules vote will be bias. Therefore in teams with like personalities, it is a good idea to pair a similar personality with a non-similar personality.
