Human Relations

I had support, encouragement, inspiration from my Director and team members. My Director had the beautiful pink Cadillac and did so much for the team: luncheons, gifts, and contest to win trips. She also envisioned the team walking across the stage at the national convention getting cars, diamonds, and everything. She definitely motivated us. She was also in tune with each team member. She knew about our families, other employment and constantly asked about our goals in Mary Kay. She was determined to lead her team to success, and she did.
My Director left the corporate world because of all the stuffiness and cold-hearted nature of the business. She was an accounting major in college and worked on many projects alone. One thing she often talks about her accounting program did not prepare her to work with people. She was taught to crunch numbers. She wanted to make a little money and meet people, so an enthusiastic friend introduced her to Mary Kay and she never looked back. She remembers her Director not really singling her out rather she taught the team some foundations for business: know yourself, know your people (customers), and know your business in that order. She learned about people, how to interact, communicate and listen; learning about the business and sell, sell, sell was a piece of cake. She stated that it was not hard to learn how to communicate and serve others because that something instilled in her as a child. As she got older, working and going to school, she learned she had to protect herself (feelings) frequently from others by not taking things personal and learned what the phrase "its just business" really meant. Why is it when young people leave to venture out on their own to discover new things the school of hard knocks dumps everything possible on them? Society tends to be cold towards one another except in crisis. For example, the nation became one temporarily the day of September 11, 2001 and some weeks after.
