John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
John Locke, who wrote The Second Treatise of Civil Government, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who wrote, The Social Contract, both have unique views of nature and "social contract." After their time they each made individual impacts on the way society thinks. They started a new way of thought which is now known as behaviorism. Behaviorism is a school of psychology that confines itself to the study of observable and quantifiable aspects of behavior and excludes subjective phenomena, such as emotions or motives.
John Locke, who was born in 1632 and died in 1704, had a huge impact on Human Understanding. He envisioned that the mind is blank at the time of birth. The mind grows and develops through time and experience, either simple or complex. This idea is one of the first thoughts on what is now modern behaviorism. He believed that human nature can be modified by environment, and he doesn't agree with the Christian faiths concept of the original sin. Locke believes that you create your own destiny. During Locke's time he argued that rulers are not absolute in their power, that they to are bound to the laws of nature. He suggested that a monarch who violated trust should be over thrown. In Locke's Letter Concerning Toleration he stated that each person was responsible for his own religious choose. I thank Locke for that belief. I agree that every person should have there own choose on what religion that want to pick. Different experiences that people have cause them to have there own faith. That doesn't mean that they are not equal or should be treated any different way. I belief that the fact that Locke stated made this statement on religions shaped the entire whole but mainly shaped America. Locke also preached that a monarch who violated the trust that had been placed in him could be overthrown. This argument reappears in the American Declaration of Independence in 1776.
