Have you ever wondered why one person has such good manners and another does not? Why one person makes success look easy while the other struggles through life as if they have been dealt a bad card? Do these things have anything to do with the way a person is raised or is it all about who the person is from birth? This is a question that has been debated over and over for years. I personally believe that nature is a highly contributing factor in the outcome of child rearing. I base my viewpoint on the information that I have gathered from my own observations, experiences, and reading the book Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.
All of my observations point towards nature as the more dominate of the two. For instance, if two babies are born on the same day to different families one may be very calm while the other is screaming and in shock from the whole experience. One child might be completely content to lay in the bassinet while the other will scream until it gains the full attention of someone in the room. This obviously comes back to the idea that nature makes you who you are, and the most that nurture can do is guide you.
My own family experiences also point to this theory. My brother and I have grown up with the same parents in the same situation and I have always been more docile. I learn from other peoples bad experiences and my brother is the kind of person who needs to learn things like that first hand. The way my brother and I go about getting what we want are the same now as they were when we were two. At two years old nurture did not have the ability to persuade our personalities. Therefore, once again reflecting that nature plays the major role. .
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is also a wonderful contributor to this idea. The character Catherine Earnshaw was wild, impetuous, and arrogant as a child. Then when she grew up, two men fell in love with her and she tormented them both.
