Creon is the Tragic Hero

            What is a tragic hero? A tragic hero has a flawed character which makes him fall; he must try to resolve a conflict but ends up failing. The play Antigone by Sophocles makes it hard for the readers to decide who is the tragic hero. Creon best fits in with the definition of a tragic hero. The things he say's does and the comments made by those around him show he is the tragic hero.
             Creon's main tragic flaw was his pride and his big ego. His biggest mistake was denying a proper burial for Antigone's brother Polynices. Antigone wanted to burying her brother because she was loyal to her family. Creon is mad because she is a women who disobeyed him in public. To make it even worse she is his son"s , Haemon, soon to be wife. Creon degrades women he thinks men are superior. Since Antigone stood up for her self his ego is hurt. "Go down below and love, if love you must - love the dead! While I"m alive, no woman is going to lord it over me" (1057). That quote right there shows that Creon thinks of women as nothing. Why would he lock Antigone up and starve her to death when he could have gave her a quick death? He did that to make it very clear to everyone that he is the only one who has power and wants to show everyone what they will get if they go against his rules. He was stubborn about his pride and wouldn't listen to anyone's advice and his bad attitude is what his tragic flaw was.
