The Passion of Volleyball

I've observed that Valley College's football coaches verbally abuse their players. Just hearing some of the words that they use make me wonder how could a player put up with that. However, most male athletes tend not to take the words personally, but take it into consideration and work harder. I believe that if Dave talked to us like the football coaches did, he wouldn't even have a volleyball team to coach. Some of my teammates can't even handle me alone yelling at them. I"m not mean, but I just tend to let my teammate know what she is doing wrong in a strong tone of voice and hopefully she takes my word for it before Dave does. I like to help out but maybe I just need a better way to let them know. I never said I was the best player either but I"d like my coach or teammate to yell at me, to set me straight. All of the players and our coach get frustrated when someone is unable to play at their best ability at the time. Frequently, when players aren't doing well they tend to get frustrated. Frustration and tension between players build up, no one is able to function their maneuvers right because they are not focused. This tends to upset Coach Dave to the extreme, even to the point where he has to take one of us out of the game. Frustration is the desire and strong-will to be perfect but pressure to do well holds us back from doing what we already know how to do. "Shake it off," a teammate would say to lift up our spirits. .
A ball drops in between two people, "move your feet and talk next time. C"mon give me a good pass!" Dave screams. The opponent just scored another point because we lacked communication. In a game talking to one another about what is coming over the net is extremely vital. Whether the ball is in or out of the court, if it is coming to you or going to another person, the players must call out whatever they see. Dave says, "to be a good team, just talking to one another, in itself, will move you up to another level in volleyball.
