Euthanasia is the act of killing someone painlessly (especially someone suffering from an incurable illness). Euthanasia is a Greek word that means "good death.".
Two places in which euthanasia is legal are Oregon and the Netherlands. Some may think this is barbarous and shouldn't be legal in any State or Country. There are a couple upsides to euthanasia. These upsides include being able to pass away painlessly and surrounded by loved ones and if you have an incurable illness and are tired of waiting around and postponing the inevitable. .
People should have the right to end one's life in a peaceful, dignified manner. This can be achieved only if one is given full freedom of choice regarding one's last moment in the near or in the distant future. However I do object to people using euthanasia for political, social, or economic purposes.
If a person does not want to live a life with an incurable disease I see no reason why he should. In my opinion people choose euthanasia because they feel that taking their own life is cowardly and wrong, but if they can get a physician to do it then it is okay. If euthanasia is made illegal everywhere people will still find a way to end their lives. .
In 1990, Americans were shaken by the following event: Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a retired pathologist, constructed and offered to interested persons a device which journalists called "the suicide machine." At the request of a 54 year-old woman who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, he inserted into one of her veins a syringe connected to this machine. The patient pressed a button, a solution of potassium chlorate began to enter the vein, and within a few minutes her heart stopped. .
In the Netherlands, the sick who experience unbearable sufferings can now ask a physician to help them die. If several physicians testify to the incurability of the illness, the sick person can receive a fatal injection.
