According to Fox, Colorado placed in the mid-teens in the 1980's. Fox states that he blames the slippage of education spending on constitutional spending limits.
In addition, the source of school revenues has Colorado differing from that of other states. In most areas, Colorado is among the top in funding for public education (followed by local and federal governments). Schools in Colorado receive a total of $4.1 billion on the average per year. The local government put in $2.1 billion of that, followed by the state at $1.8 billion and $205 million comes from Washington. Once again, Fox states that per-pupil spending has no place to go but down on the list for education spending. The funding is restricted and the population is not.
Here we finish up stating that every year Colorado adds a district the size of Littleton and thus creates a huge burden on facilities. I feel that in today's society you're not going to find population slowing down anywhere. the costs are going to continue to rise, as well as the population. The focus on education, in my opinion, across the country is way below where it needs to be. We have discussed in class that there are teachers out there that should not be teaching, and we need to do something about that. I personally do not think that funding (not only in Colorado) is the only problem that we have in education today. We need to bring a higer moral standard to the upbringing of our children today that is simply not there.
I am writing this paper on this situation because it seems that the focus on education, and children in schools, really took off after the Columbine shooting. To my vantage point, the education system was shadowed by other political and economic news. Now, ever since the shootings, it seems that the tide has turned and people are realizing that there is something wrong with the education of children today. There cannot be a scapegoat here in this situation.
