The Odyssey chapters 1-5


            
             Book 1- In book one we find out that Odysseus is being held by Calypso on the island Ogygia. Odysseus wants to come home to his homeland and see his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus. Zeus and Athena have a talk about Odysseus. Telemachus is upset because his father is still not home. Penelope is distraught over Odysseus being gone for so long. The suitors are all after the marriage to Penelope and she gets very upset with all of them.
             Book 4- Menelaus is excited to see Telemachus the son of his dear friend Odysseus. Menelaus then tells him that he would have done anything for his father. They all start to weep. Athena then drugs them all to make them forget about their pain and sorrow and they all fall asleep.
             Book 5- Athena tells Zeus about the suffering of Odysseus on Ogygia. The suitors plan to kill Telemachus. Hermes is send to Ogygia to have a talk with Calypso. He demands that she release Odysseus and have his build a raft and sail to an island. Calypso goes to tell Odysseus and he is excited to finally go home. That night they make love together. At dawn, he leaves on his raft. Poseidon sees him in the water, gets very upset, and sends a storm to kill him. Odysseus overcomes the storm as get on the island.

             Telemachus shows strong generosity and courage in The Odyssey (Books 1-5). .
             His attitude towards Athena when she visits him is so calm and nice it gives me the felling that he is a very good guy. Telemachus shows this when he comes out and says to Athena, " Greetings stranger. You are welcome here. After you've had dinner, you can tell us what you need." (Book 1, lines 132-133). .

             When Telemachus finally realizes that he needs if father very much, he develops a strong emotion for his father to come home. However, I feel that he is upset because he does not know why his father still is not home yet. Telemachus shows me that he is a real man because he is not scared to cry. " He was sitting with the suitors, nursing his sorrow, picturing his noble father, imagining he had returned.
