Abolishing Alcohol


A select few will probably stay in business illegally knowing they could charge twice as much for the alcohol. Alcohol is the most common drug used in America, making it exceed a billion dollar a year industry (Alcohol Ignites Sports Fans). Different companies make over 172 different types of beer, that's over 172 companies going out of business, and that's only beer (Gordis 15). These companies have no regard to the people that they hurt or kill when using the product they make billions off of. An anonymous underage college student while participating in the College Alcohol Study Harvard School of Public Health Survey stated that "I was having a great night. I drank at least 15 beers, and then I completely blacked out. This is not uncommon for me." This kid risked his life drinking a substance that any of his friends could have bought him; try to tell me that Budweiser cares, just as long as people buy their beer. Even though, there are so many companies and so much money put into alcohol at this time it we can stop producing it so that underage drinkers can go buy it from the store.
             On the other hand, people will stop making impaired decisions. Alcohol impairs many people's thought processes as well as actions. When under the influence of alcohol the general population makes terrible decisions including having unprotected sex, blackouts, and hangovers. Over 82% of college students have had a hangover the next morning after a night of drinking. 32% of men and 29% of women have said they have participated in having unplanned sex while under the influence of alcohol. Finally, 41% of men and 38% of women have forgotten what they did that night.
