Canada has a growing market for fishing boats, especially with all the lakes and bodies of water in their country. The market is a little different from here in the states, they are very similar because of the border of the Northern United States and the Southern part of Canada. For those places the marketing strategy is very similar because many people from Canada and the United States will use many of the same places to fish and use for recreation, the Great Lakes was the example that Mr. Daffron used. Therefore the boats are very similar with the horsepower, the weights, and the trailer weight; this makes it very easy for the company to make a good profit by basically using the same boats. Since the two countries are bordering each other they will have the same distribution channels and the target market will be the same. The only difference is that boat is more expensive because they have to pay for a foreign exchange rate, shipping costs, the $30,000 boat will cost between $42,000- $45,000. .
Even though Canada is bordering the United States we still have many different ways to handle business, and they also have the some of the views that we have down here in the States. One of the problems that this company faces while doing business with Canada is that there are many different cultures inside the country, the biggest to overcome is the French language and their customs because some parts of Canada have a heavy influence from France.
When talking to Mr. Daffron he had mentioned that when his reps go to Canada to do business deals he makes sure to tell them that they need to be punctual just as the would be if they were doing business here in the States. Canadians feel that it is a sign of disrespect if you arrive late to a business meeting; if you are running late a call is appreciated to let them know where you are at. It is usually acceptable to run about 15 minutes late but if you are to run later than that be sure to call.
