What Makes Me Different

I had one of those days, about two weeks ago, when I thought my day couldn't possibly get any worse, and I wished I hadn't dragged myself out of bed that morning. To begin the agony, I woke up late, I was late to school, and I had forgotten a project that I had spent all night slaving over. Still, my genuine grin never left my face. I am often asked what is the source of my inspiration. I feel my happiness is created by making others joyful.
To project the happiness that I wish for others, I often participate in activities such as visiting orphanages, or volunteering to spend time with the children in the special education program at my school and church. I love the feeling it gives me to see their large glistening eyes light up when I pull out a story or a board game. The feeling I receive is the way a flower feels when the sun beams onto it; it enlightens me. .
I observed one of my peers tormenting another student in my class. He was remarking about how she was not very good looking. Very disturbed by this, I intervened and expressed my opinion on the situation. I could tell by the look in her eyes that she appreciated my comment. I believe this makes me different from others, because I try to sympathize with others, and be less critical than some of my peers tend to be.
