Paid work is a paramount necessity for the well-being of individuals. The social, emotional, physical needs of the individual can be satisfied & enhanced through the money & status gained from paid work. Social interactions, financial security, leisure activities, & resources all become enhanced through paid work.
The majority of men & women must balance work with family responsibilities. To fulfill these needs, money is usually required & in most cases this means that at least one member of the family needs to be in the paid workforce. Workers with family responsibilities face a wide range of difficulties including the need to take time off work for family members, which requires travel & time. As a result of the many pressures on people today, governments, unions & workplaces have put various supports in place to better enable individuals to manage their multiple role expectations. One of these government supports in place is flexible work patterns & practices. Traditionally work took place between 9-5.
