Through my reading of what others have called "White privilege" I have made my own assumptions of what those words make me think of when I hear. "White Privilege" is something that most of don't even think about. We don't recognize it in our daily lives. We think in an academic setting that everyone is equal, and on such a diverse campus as UWM is we think that everyone has the same opportunities. But with being a college student we try say that the university evens the playing field for all of us. They try to but can't always do it. With different levels of college students with different backgrounds that is what makes college diverse, and sometime unfair. White privilege is the fact most of the Whites who choose to go to college often can, but most minorities of other races don't have the same opportunities as white college students do, and some have better chances because of new programs that are out there to get college campus's to a more diverse environment, my point is that in a setting where about 80% of the student body is of "White" heritage we have to be aware the diversity is the best thing that can happen to not only a college campus ,but to the world in general. Our understanding needs to be one of open-mindedness and concern for future generations, and for future students. We need to get out in the open the roots of the privilege that most whites take for granted, and we need to determine if this privilege is earned or if its taken, I think that is the biggest question and I think from everything that I have read that question is there for the taking as well .
