Labor Day

It started out just like any other weekend; cheering at the Friday night football game, staying up until the early hours of the morning emitting an inconsequential flow of babble and laughter through the keyboard to my confidants, then falling into a deep slumber. The on think I kept forgetting about this oh so special weekend was that we did not have school on Monday, due to the fact it was a day set aside to recognize the workers of America.
Saturday felt like it was going in slow motion; I"m sure it had something to do with me not waking up until noon. As I attempted to wake up, I went through my normal morning routine. I brushed away the plaque and did my best to rid my mouth of the horrible case of halitosis it had acquired through the night. I also took a shower, got dressed and did my make-up.
I got on the computer, like always. I was hoping to find someone to talk to when my mom interrupted my search to ask me if I wanted to go to town with her. Desperate to escape the clutches of my boring house, I jumped at the opportunity.
Hanging out with my mom and little brother in town was not how I wanted to spend my first Saturday single, after hanging out with the same person for six months. I wanted to be with my friends, whether they were my guy friends, or girl friends. When we got home, I pounced on the keyboard of my computer, eager to find someone to hang with, and something to do.
I started chatting with my good friend, Mike. He too had a frantic need to get out of his house and hang out with his peers, we often think alike. We decided that he would pick me up in a short while, to meet up with our other friends, Dusty and Brandon.
He arrived at my house a short while later to pick me up for our coed outing. We didn't want to classify this as a date, for fear of messing up our unique friendship. Unfortunately my parents, being over protective of their only daughter as they often are, insisted on being introduced to Mike.
