The Necklace

Mathilde Loisel was a very greedy woman. She was not happy with what she had but said with what other people did have. She and her husband were invited to the Minister of Public an invitation that very few people get. Mr. Loisel thought that she would be happy when she reads it but she didn't want to go because she did not have a nice frock and jewelry to wear to the party. Mr. Loisel wanted too see her happy so with his extra money that he was saving up for a gun he gave to his wife to buy a new frock. She went out and bought one. Then she said that "I need jewelry" and he said that she could wear a real flower. Then Mr. Loisel got the idea of borrowing it from her friend Mme. Forestier. Then she goes over to her house and asks if it's all right if she could borrow her jewelry for one night and she said that is fine so she picked out a necklace and wore it to the party. She danced and enjoyed herself until four in the morning. She wanted to leave before the other women got there and started to put on their fur wraps on. She started to run down the stairs and onto the street and called for a taxi and found an old carriage that took them home. When they got home she went upstairs and looked in the mirror, her necklace was gone. They then both tried to look for it but had no luck. Mr. Loisel tried to find a jeweler that made an identical necklace and they found one but the price was 40,000 francs. Mr. Loisel borrowed money from everyone, bought the necklace and gave it to Mme. Forestier and she couldn't tell that it was hers or not so she said thank you. It took Mr. Loisel 10 years to pay it off then Mme. Loisel meets her on the street and tells her what happened with that necklace and she said that "mine was worth not more than 500 francs at most!".
