The Odyssey

So Telemachus had the complex task of watching over his mother whom has hundreds of suitors calling on her. But his mother did not make this task as difficult as it could have been. Penelope, although very beautiful and distraught over the apparent loss of her husband, was a civilized and respectable woman. She would not give in to the suitors desires; she was indeed the model wife {in my opinion} during this time of trial. She done whatever she thought she could get away with to hold out getting married and keep hope for her great husbands" possible return.
But the woman who had the most effect on the journey home of Odysseus and, the journey that Telemachus took towards adulthood was the goddess Athena. Throughout this book you see the definite role that religion played during these times, and Athena was the goddess that was watching over the two men. Although she was the main god discussed in this book, you can tell that she is not the most important god during this journey. Every god in this book had to answer to Zeus, as in true Greek mythology, and most all prayers that are prayed are prayed to him. And if you did not get the result you wanted from this prayer it must mean that the gods were displeased with you, or if you did receive what you prayed for then the gods were happy with you. In result if the gods were happy with you, your name would grow with great bounds across the land and many great stories would be told of you. But no matter how the people thought the gods felt about them they continued to pray and keep great faith in these lords because after all if they have the power to bring on despair they must have the power to bring on great wealth and luck. Although in Christianity we serve only one god and he has no physical appearance, our faith is generally the same. We also have great faith in our god and believe that he has total control of all good and evil.
