They may be old, but they still know how to rock! Call them what you like, icons, idols, legends; we all know who they are. Aerosmith is one of the greatest American rock groups of all time.
So how was such a legend ever brought to life? Well, to start off, the band began when Steven Tyler met Joe Perry. Joe was currently working in an ice cream parlor in his hometown of Sunapee, New Hampshire ("Aerosmith", N/A). Soon afterwards, they gathered up the rest of the band, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, and Joey Kramer ("Band-Aerosmith Bio", N/A). They played their first gig together at Nipmuc Regional High School ("Aerosmith", N/A), which turned out well for beginners. Now, it came to the point that they needed a name, and they soon came up with Aerosmith, after turning down such names as Hookers ("Aerosmith", N/A). They took a big chance in 1973, and released their self-titled debut album. After going no where, they tried again in 1974 with their album "Get Your Wings" ("Band-Aerosmith Bio", N/A); and soon again on April 3, 1975, with "Toys in the Attic" (Zarkowski, 18). Finally on February 10, 1976, all of their hard work paid off when the single "Dream On", became a top ten hit, reaching a peak position of number six on the charts ("Aerosmith", N/A). The band was on their way.
Excited by the success, the band decided to continue releasing music. In 1976, they released "Rocks"; soon followed in 1977 by "Draw the Line" ("Band-Aerosmith Bio", N/A). Neither album was initially a big hit, yet the band still followed the "party like a rockstar lifestyle"("Band-Aerosmith Bio", N/A). For them, this meant drugs, alcohol, and the beginning of several addictions. Later that year, the heavy drug use among band members caused Joe Perry to break away with a solo project ("Aerosmith Biography", N/A). Just when it seemed things couldn't get worse, on October 10, 1978, Joe Perry and Steven Tyler were injured in Philadelphia when a fan tossed a cherry bomb onstage ("Inductees", N/A).
