Companies need to advertise in order to sell goods and services and to do this they firstly need to give information about a product. They need to be able to attract investors, to persuade retailers to stock goods and to recruit staff. For this they have to use good language techniques and visual impact, because without advertising there would be no such thing as television stations, magazines, newspapers etc, because so much money is pumped into these industries each year by advertising agencies. Things such as catchy phrases should also be used to advertise a product or campaign, for example: "A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play." Making phrases rhyme like this one can also make it catchy and easy to remember.
When you come to think about it, no wonder advertising has so much affect on us because so much time, effort and money is put into it. All companies and organisations advertise their services in different ways. Some sell food or clothing and try to let people know about new additions whereas as other companies just want to tell people about special offers and many other thing as well, but although they all offer different products or services, they all have one thing in common and that is the fact that they are trying to attract positive public attention and get people involved in their cause.
Now I will compare two different advertisements and try to explain their aims, target audience, their purpose and the different techniques they have used in order to make it effective.
The first advertisement I will use is one advertising L,OREAL ELVIVE shampoo and conditioner. This advertisement is in a woman magazine so I can obviously see that it is mainly aimed at young women. Although this advertisement is set out on two pages and everything should be quite spacious and spread out but in fact, all the writing and other features are all quite closely put together and therefore it gives a compressed look and looks quite messy as well.
