Turn of the Screw, The-Construction of story

Romance and curiosity kept the story alive. The governess first fell for her employer and so took up a job as the governess of two children. Astonished by how well behaved the children are, the governess is peaceful for sometime although still curious as to how the little boy got kicked out of school. Then the ghosts start appearing. The reader is left to decide if it is just her who dreams up the ghosts or if they really are supposed to appear in the story. Our main character falls upon obstacles that she fails to overcome. She herself turns selfish and primarily causes Flora, the little girl, to flee from her for fear of the ghosts and the obvious prejudice that the governess feels towards her and her brother. That is the main obstacle and crisis in the story because it is what unravels what truly happens. This prejudice that the governess has towards the two children could not be softened by anyone and caused all the problems. She kept thinking that the children and the ghosts were conspiring against her. It got to a point where the kids could not say anything without her reading into what they said and becoming suspicious. Mile's behavior is also interesting because we never know if he really is a bad child. She becomes opinionated and selfish because she doubts the innocence of the children and refuses to contact her employer, the children's uncle, for fear that he might see her as a failure. This powerful construction of the novel keeps the reader interested until the end and after the end. .
James' construction harmonized with the character and themes. The protagonist, as I mentioned before, is the governess. We read the story through her and are therefore subjected to her opinions and point of view. She makes the story happen. She is characterized as a romantic adventurous girl because she fell for her employer and took on a talk of caring for two children and thereby seeked to explore the mysteries behind the fazade the property put on.
