My first camping experience had to be the worst one. An event that was supposed to be a blast, turned out to be a huge nightmare. We went camping with no experience and ran into a whole slue of problems. Needless to say if you go camping, go prepared and organized. Planning and thinking ahead probably would have saved us the headache, but for my friends and I, that just never would have never happened.
During our last 6months of high school, my friends and I were getting a bit antsy, worrying about graduation, college and stressing about our never ending, nagging parents. It wasn't long before we all realized the Easter long weekend was coming up. This was the perfect chance to get away, and we all agreed camping was a fabulous idea. Now I must mention that that going camping in April is not the smartest idea, as we don't have the warmest springs in BC. We all should have taken the rainy weather as a sign to turn around and go home, but we didn't. Once we got there we were all so excited, the rain didn't bother us one bit while we set up our tents.
Of course everything is very exciting in the begging. I would have to say that setting up the tent, with no one having any previous experience and in the rain, was more fun than the rest of the trip. When the tents were up, we all decided to set up the rest of the camp, which was just the eating/cooking area. With this finally out of the way, half the day had gone by and everyone was starving. We could hear our belly's moaning, and feel our energy levels dropping. Cooking apparently wasn't going to be a problem, because my friend Janet had a portable stove. She brought the stove and a couple of problems with it: no instructions, it looked about 50years old, wasn't clean and must have been the first model of portable stoves. There was like fifteen of us there and no one could figure out how to turn this stove on. With our hunger increasing very rapidly, we were all getting pretty desperate.
