My essay is in question of the mutilation of female genital that is practice in Muslims countries. Do you believe that the form of female mutilation is a form of cultural practice or a religious practice? As I read, The War Against Women, and researched this subject matter, I also started to sense that this was also a form of control over woman. I believe in retrospect that this practice is very degrading to women, and this is very inhumane to a woman and her body. I heard of this practice before in a prior psychology class, but I never really put much thought into it until now!.
Many support this practice as a cultural tradition and many denounce it as a form of abuse. For us to hear of this form of abuse would be illegal in the United States, but is it our right to compel our beliefs on another country? Female genital mutilation was disturbing to read about, but to know it is also practiced in other countries and this procedure is said to be a cultural practice and not a form of religion,# became questionable. .
Many women are now tying to seek asylum in this country in order to avoid the form of genital mutilation. Do you think that some women in these countries are in agreement with this practice? I believe that some are, for the reason that their sisters, mothers or grandmothers before them experience this cultural practice and many women think that this is acceptable because this is apart of their culture, but I also believe that many women in these countries disagree with this form of practice.
Have male circumcision in North America, ever been in question? Is it okay to circumcised males? This is acceptable practice in the United States, and we do have the means or resources to research information that might be uncertain to us. In North American it is a tradition and also a medical concern for males to be circumcised. Circumcision is also a practice among Muslim and Jews for religion reason not just cultural reasons.
