Hypnosis


            
             Hypnosis is often considered a false treatment that does not work. Scientists have very different opinions on hypnosis. Many experiments have been done but there is not usually a consistent result. This paper focuses on one of the views of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that when properly guided can be used for many purposes, in many settings but does not have an effect on all people.
             Hypnosis is an altered state of conscience Hypnotized people are usually in a state of extreme relaxation, intense concentration and have high suggestibility Hypnosis is a relaxing, naturally occurring state of mind which happens to us every day. Each time we float off in a daydream we are in a natural state of hypnosis Hypnosis is not about losing control it is about taking control of one's own body and mind .
             In 1772, Doctor Franz Anton Mesmer created the idea of "Mesmerism" or as more commonly known as hypnosis. Mesmer wanted to combine the ideas of astrology and medicine which is where he came across this idea During hypnosis the brain's electrical states change. The brain waves of someone under hypnosis differ completely from that of a normal person ( During hypnotism, direct communication with the unconscious mind can be established. In a hypnotic trance, if guided properly, the mind and body are able to accept change easily. In hypnosis one is in control. The hypnotist is just the guide who leads one through the experience ("Hypnosis"). .
             There are many different uses for hypnosis. Hypnosis is used to enhance learning, heal emotional scars, improve performance, change habits and speed the healing process ("Hypnosis"). Hypnosis is used to discover truths in the unconscious mind. It has also been proved that it can recover repressed memories of sexual abuse or a past life. The hypnotized are also able to recall events that relate to being in distant places or in future times (Carroll).
