The Webster dictionary defines communication as the act of transmitting or exchanging information or opinions from one to another. But communication is much more than that. The way you communicate expresses what type of person you are and what you"re all about.
We are nothing without communication. We go crazy without communication; whether it's verbal or non-verbal. We have to express ourselves, however we feel comfortable. It could be through talking, singing, yelling, drawing, painting, writing or even playing an instrument. There's hundreds of ways to communicate with other people, animals, God, or the earth.
Take Picasso, for instance, he was a wonderful artist. He communicated through his art. He put passion into it. The reason I believe his artwork was so wonderful is because it spoke to people. It wasn't just some paint thrown onto a canvas. It was his emotions, his ideas and his thoughts.
Now music. What do you think music is? Of course, it's another type of communication. Not only classical music, but all types, rap, hip hop, punk, country, every single type of music you could think of. Most artists are talking about themselves or things that are close to them in their songs. As Eminem said in one of his songs "Music is reflection of self.
We just explain it and then we get our cheques in the mail.".
Eminem is one of my favourite artists, not just because I like his beats. It's because when I listen to his lyrics, it feels like he's talking to me. I think that's why he sells so many records, because he's aware of who his audience is and he communicates to them. It seems that the music people enjoy tends to be the music that relates to them.
.
These artists express their feelings, which I think is very healthy, because it's not healthy to keep your feelings bottled up.
