Iceland

When these glaciers melt they produce some of the most beautiful "wasserfaellen- (waterfalls), and most powerful in the entire European continent. Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe with 500 cubic meters of water streaming down its 44m drop off per sec. But that is not Iceland's main tourist attraction; in fact the water comes out so fast that they were unable to convert it into a hydroelectric power plant.
Iceland's most popular tourist attraction again fashioned by the liquidation of glaciers by the heat of the volcanoes is Gullfoss. The Volkera Kuerkjoal is the most active volcanic area in Iceland. It also dissolves the ice to create the most powerful waterfall, the Dettifoss.
Geysers are also another major landform on this island. Because of the geothermic activity caused by the volcanoes the water on the surface is heated by geothermal energy. Icelanders have enjoyed natural hot water year round. Imagine being in such a cold climate with endless hot water. This is the dream of many. It has been reported that 85% of Iceland's atmospheric heating is derived from geothermal sources and almost every community has it's own geothermally warmed outdoor swimming pool. Many people come to our the geysers, the most famous being the Great Geyser, which started erupting in 1294 but has not been as reliable in the past several decades. There are other very dependable geysers that are much smaller like Strokkur (the churn). This geyser shoots a stream of water up every five minutes to a height of about 66 feet. Tourists must take caution and adhere to the signs posted because the water can reach temperatures of 150. Several tourists are burned each year because they do not follow the instructions posted at the geyser sites. .
Iceland is often called the barren land or country. But Iceland has green fields for a good length of time. While 50% of the country is wasteland, roughly 10% of Iceland is covered with post-glacial lava.
