The Cask Of Amontillado

During a persons life span they tend to run into a few conflicts with certain individuals. These people may have many different reactions to the situations they are placed in. In the midst of a conflict a person may experience many different emotions, which can greatly affect the outcome of the dispute. Depending on the individual they may make harsh decisions or be blinded by their rage to a point where they can do something completely out of character. In the short story "The Cask of Amontillado" Edgar Allen Poe suggests if a person is enraged in the midst of conflict they can wait forever to carry out the perfect revenge, they cannot forgive unless they feel the situation has been justified, and they can come up with a flawless plan for revenge which can be completely out of their character.
A person whose ego has been publicly humiliated can have many different ways of handling the situation. When Fortunado embarrassed Montressor he became furious to the point where nothing could stop him from getting his revenge on Fortunado. Montressor was so blinded with rage that he could have carried out any horrible plan he had on Fortunado at any moment. Instead he waited for the perfect moment where he could repay Fortunado without getting caught. Even though Montressor was so angry he was able to keep it hidden until the perfect moment when he could take his revenge on Fortunado so that way it would be even sweeter. In disagreement people become so angry that they could wait for an eternity just to have the perfect moment where their revenge can be carried out. .
When a person has been treated badly they can carry out unthinkable acts upon others. In the case of Montressor he was so hurt by Fortunado that he was able to not only physically hurt him but kill him. Embarrassing Fortunado was not enough to please Montressor, he wanted to actually hear him in pain and see him suffer. This may have been because if Montressor had only embarrassed Fortunado he would not be able to see the pain he was experiencing.
