Roy Bourgeois grew up in Louisiana and graduated with a degree in geology. During this time, Vietnam was in the making. This became the turning point in Bourgeois's life. He would spend four years of his life in the military, wanting to make a career out of it. Bourgeois feels the raging war forced him to look at the United States foreign policies. Through this, he began to feel as though Americans were intruders that bombard others countries trying to make peace knowing little to nothing about their culture. Less than five percent of Americans have a passport. The only way Americans are aware of what is taking place in other countries is through the media, which in some cases are a false view of the real world.
A few years later Bourgeois became a catholic priest. Through this, he would learn about and began to serve the very poor, oppressed Bolivians during their dictatorship. This country taught him of the price to pay for being an outspoken critic, but they would not be the last. Officials disliked his behavior and he was at that time forced to leave the country never to return.
This did not stop Father Bourgeois. He soon began his dangers journey to the country of five billion people, San Salvador. During his stay, things began to heat up. Rapist made churchwomen their prey and little children their victims when it came to death. George W. Bush, a former president provided them with weapons to kill their own. These same rifles would help in the assassination of Bishop Omario. Bishop Omario was a strong believer in peace. His famous words are, "Let those who have a voice speak out for the voices.".
Ten out the nineteen that either raped women or killed their own people including children got their training in America. The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, located in Fort Benning, Georgia trained those Latin American soldiers and many others.
