For example, my earlier sentence ordered threats starting with the cutting down of trees, killing birds, extinction, then taking the life of a human being. Clearly, extinction is far more serious than one life of a human being. Depending on if you noticed that or not can determine if you fall in to this category of today's ignorant populace. .
Now usually, if someone would come up to me and try to tell me that I"m supporting all this destruction to my planet, I probably would have muttered something like " Damn tree huggers- and avoided these types of people. The animal and plant "hurting" really struck me as a little "loopy." I"m your typical ignorant adolescent and I don't usually care if someone or something gets hurt in the process of me getting what I want. As long as I got what I wanted, I was happy. Well, once I started doing a little research on this topic and I put myself in other people's places that were involved, my opinions have somewhat altered. .
I was always proud to wear the little logo that said Nike, GAP, Champion, Fila, and even Disney at some point. For all I knew, these garments were produced by a class of workers that all had equal rights and benefits as any other worker. I was definitely wrong. Some of the conditions that these workers go through are appalling. Verbal and physical abuse, high rates of sexual harassment, forced overtime, denied sick leave, inadequate access to medical care, and two reports of worker deaths to name a few. That's only Nike (Dara O"Rourke, The Boston Globe). Our international economy is growing at such a fast and competitive pace that it constantly requires better but cheaper resources, even if it means taking the life of something or someone else. So why do we have sweatshops you might ask? Most would say that working in a sweatshop makes a bad life better for poor people in most developing countries. That is terribly wrong.
