In the play, Antigone, written by Sophocles, I relate to the character Antigone the most, because, like her, I am loyal, I stick up for what I believe in, and I take pride in my beliefs just as she does. The play, Antigone, is about a girl who dies for what she believes in. Disobeying her king, her Uncle Creon, she buries her cousin who betrayed the king. The outcome of the king's actions makes the story a tragedy. The tragedies in this play were not the result of fate, but the result of the traits of the characters. The play is a story of love, loss, hatred and loyalty.
Antigone and I are alike in terms of loyalty because, like her, I am loyal to friends and family. I am loyal to my family by standing by them through easy and hard times regardless of the potential outcome. If someone says something mean about a member of my family, I stick up for them. If they get in any trouble or need help, I am there for them. An example of my being loyal to my friends is that I stand up for them when someone else is picking on them or teasing them regardless of whether it will anger the person doing the teasing or make that person dislike me. I also show my loyalty by keeping a secret when a friend asks me to. Just like Antigone stuck by her cousin, I stick by my friends. Another example of this is helping them when they are in need; such as helping them with school work or work they have to do at home.
Antigone stood up for what she believed in by dying for her beliefs. I cannot bury my cousin to stand up for what I believe in but I can and do speak up when I disagree with something or feel that someone is acting in a manner contrary to my beliefs. I act in a way that I think my values would have me act. If I think something is not right to do, I do something about it. For instance, I tell people how I feel and I try to get them to change their actions, such as when friends or other people are being picked on.
