Strictly Ballroom: Film Review

The Rumba was a big part of "Strictly Ballroom," a very exciting piece of music but uses to show how swift and passionately the couples move while dancing. One of the most emotional parts of the movie is where Fran and Scott First dance on the roof, the music is a fun song but at a tempo in which the couple seem to be dancing very passionately. Sound effects were also used throughout the movie an excellent example of this is when we first get introduced to Barry Fife (the Pan Pacific Championship Federation President), there is an echo effect of his voice giving the impression that he is a very powerful man but he does not always use this in a mature fashion.
When Fran and Scott are dancing behind the curtain at the state tryouts the is not any dialog but there is still a story being told, by looks and the music, this scene gives us an incite into how Scott and Fran really feel for each other.
When Scott is about to dance with Fran in the tryouts, Shirley, Liz and Tina take her into a vacant room and sit her down, a close up shot of Shirley, Liz and Tina faces are used when there talking but when we look at Fran a medium or long-shot is used to give the impression that she is a much less confident and smaller person than Shirley, Liz and Tina.
During the film we viewed the personalities, lifestyles and behaviours of the Hastings family to a great extent, Shirley is quite a worried person, she has had a hard life with her husband and is still rather upset about the past with Doug's dancing etc. Doug is a very calm and quiet person, he has very few interests, we see that he rather interested in movies and making them, his son Scott and his dancing and finding some quiet time to dance his own steps. Scott is another worried person but he is worried about what others think of his dance steps and how good he looks when dancing, this ma be why her neglected Fran when she first had the idea of dancing together.
