In Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace", a couple's life was spent paying off a debt for a necklace they had borrowed and lost. The main characters Mme. Loisel under a lot of stress, and gave her money, he was going to use to purchase a gun for hunting, to purchase a dress so she could wear to the ball. Mme. Loisel was still not pleased because she was missing the jewelry that would make her look among the balls class. Her husband then suggested to her why not borrow jewelry from her good friend Mme. Forestier. Mme. Loisel thought it was a splendid idea. Mme. Loisel then went over to Mme. Forestier's house, and borrowed a beautiful diamond necklace. Mme. Loisel and her husband went to the ball; meanwhile, Mme. Loisel was having the time of her life her husband ended up falling asleep at the ball. Loisel at first "She was one of those pretty and charming girls who are sometimes, as if by mistake of destiny, born in a family of clerks" (60).
