SQUIRE .
If a page shows good potential when he turns fourteen years old he will become a squire. To show that a page had become a squire he would be allowed to carry a sword and a shield. As a squire his lord will teach him the skills and techniques need to master the sword the lance and the shield. He would also begin training to learn how to get use to wearing heavy armor. To hone their lancing the squires would use a dummy with a shield on a swinging arm in which if the squire didn't hit it right a bag full of sand will swing around and hit them. To better their swordsmanship squires would have sparring sessions with each other or practice with a dummy. Not only do they lance and sword fight but also the squire is taught how to ride a horse and fight at the same time. It is also the squires" job to learn and lords job to teach the squire the duties and responsibilities of a knight. When the squire was old enough and his lord thought him ready he would ride into battle with his lord. He was to replace any broken or lost weapons or items. The squire was also there to fix any wounds or help out his lord if he was in trouble and provide a proper burial if his lord was killed in battle. If the squire made it through all of these hardships he will become a knight. On the day before the ceremony the squire will take a cleansing bath, fast, and would make a confession. Then he pray all night to God for guidance in becoming a knight. The next morning he was dressed in white then after he was knighted he got new armor and his sword was blessed.
