Forrest Gump was released back in 1994. It shot Tom Hanks to international stardom as the film received 6 academy awards. Tom Hanks does not just do a good job of playing Forrest Gump, you really believe that he is that person. This film was made to make you keep watching it. You only have to watch it for a minute and then you want to find out what happens next. In this essay I will be writing as the audience. I will discuss, in depth, the way that Tom Hanks plays Forrest Gump and how he makes a very good job of it.
We first see Tom Hanks (Forrest) when he is walking down the path with Jenny (his best friend). Suddenly, the bullies come round the corner in a car and start chasing him. Jenny tells Forrest to run. As this happens you feel a sudden sense of fear. Forrest Gump's facial expression shows that he is scared and he runs fast and very stilted like a stick man.
Tom Hanks really creates Forrest, using physical and mental characteristics by his facial expressions and his tone of voice. When he runs away from the bullies he runs a long way. As he is running he runs across a football field. This is when the football team spots him.
Forrest plays for the football team for quite a while, and he gets an award from the President.
Forrest does not quite know how important it is to be congratulated by the President. He does not really seem pleased when his is shaking his hand, you can tell this from Tom Hanks" facial expressions. He acts just like his normal self and speaks to the President like he talks to anyone else. When asked by the President how he feels, Forrest replies, "I need a pee". At this point it makes you laugh, but when you think that Forrest does not have a clue who he is speaking to, you feel sympathy towards him. Tom Hanks facial expressions show a sense of shyness and confusion. At this point I do not think Forrest knows what is going on because everyone is laughing.
