Geocentric vs. Heliocentric -- from Ptolomy to Tycho

In attempting to make sense of the earth's motion, particularly its position in the space (regardless the significance of the term at the time), people have spent uncalculated amount of efforts to make observations throughout the history. The major ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle, populated their worldview based on subjective insights, but falling short of progressive scientific demands. The gradual emerging from Ptolemy's geocentric theory (100-170), to Tycho's circular geocentric orbits (1546-1601) to Copernicus heliocentric model (1473-1543) signified such changes. All three proposals induced century-long philosophical arguments and scientific analysis. .
Nowadays, heliocentric model is 99.9% publicly accepted so that it would be considered silly to doubt such an idea. Its ability to provide currently the most reasonable explanation to astronomical puzzles and its reputation for mathematical simplicity wins widely acceptances worldwide. According to historical records, there was a renewed interest in Platonic and Pythagorean philosophy during approximately 200BC. Both philosophies are characterized with the belief of a perfect system and see mathematics as the way to such an ideal. The recognition eventually leads to an increasing desire for mathematical simplicity. .
In Copernicus cosmology, the beauty of mathematical perfection is reflected by its openness in accepting possibility of complex astronomical forms and maintains faith in a more complete mathematical framework. The reward is sets of mathematics-based observations, including providing an explanation to epicycles, circular planetary orbits around the sun and finally, the establishment of the heliocentric theory. More importantly, what Copernicus has accomplished is not merely a theory, but a pattern as a foundation to uniform motion of objects (smaller one orbits the bigger one). People desire to find orders and patterns.
