In the Journal Inquirer, Kym Soper, Confirms the official data collected by National Highway Safety Administration that the number of fatal automobile accidents caused by teenage drivers, in the State of Connecticut, increased from 39 to 52 to 412 respectively from years 2000 to 2001 to 20032, (6). This data shows how rapidly the number of accidents is going up. The state of Connecticut has to enforce strict rules and regulations for teenage drivers. Otherwise, we will have a big loss of lives o innocent people, who would simply lose their lives just because of negligence of government and reckless teenage drivers. According to John Rosemond, in The Hartford Courant, "The crash rate of 16-years old is three times that of 17-year olds and five times of 18-years old" (H7). Therefore, looking at the crash rate, the driving age should be raised to eighteen. First of all, maturity level at age of eighteen is much better than that of sixteen or seventeen-year-old drivers. Second, eighteen -year-old drivers are involved less in horseplay and drag racing. Also, they get less distracted. Third, they are more responsible of their actions on the road. They make wise decisions than teens younger than eighteen. And finally, raising the driving age to eighteen will save number o innocent lives that are being taken on the roads.
First of all, .
Second, by raising the driving age to eighteen, we can reduce rate of crashes. As John Rosemond emphasized, in The Hartford Courant, "The crash rate of 16-years old is three times that of 17-year olds and five times of 18-years old" (H7). It is oblivious that drivers under age of eighteen have more number of crashes than drivers of ages eighteen and over. Therefore, there will be five times fewer crashes if the driving age is eighteen. Dee-Ann Durbin, in The Journal Inquirer, confirms that "Twelve studies released Tuesday by the nonprofit National Safety Council found that graduated driver's license programs reduce teen crash rates by as much as 33 percent" (13).
