Robert Schumann


            Throughout history, the world has been blessed with the production of music. From the soothing sound of classical music to the dramatic sounds of opera, music has touched many people in different ways. Behind it all are the music composers. One of many famous composers was a German name Robert Schumann. Robert Schumann composed a variety of music types, ranging from orchestral music to Piano music. During his short life, Schumann has left a mark in history with the music work he has done. .
             Robert Schumann was born on June 8, 1810 in Zwickau, Germany. His father was a bookseller named August Schumann. His mother was Johanna Schumann. Robert is the youngest of 5 children. Early as age 7, Robert Schumann received general musical and piano instructions from Baccalaureus Kuntzsch; a teacher at the Zwickau high school. Without any hesitation, Robert developed a love of music and tried to make up musical compositions. When not playing music, Robert enjoyed reading the books in his father's store. In 1826, Robert Schumann's father died. His father was the only one who encouraged him to develop his music talent. Without his father's encouragement, he followed his mother's wishes and attended Leipzig University to study law. Before graduating, Robert dropped out and devoted all his time to music. At age 20, Robert took piano lessons from Friedrich Wieck and lived at his home. During this time, Robert Schumann injured a finger with a mechanism he invented. In 1832, he was forced to abandon the career of being a pianist. Still focusing on music career, Robert decided to turn to composition and writing about music. With the help of young friends with the same interests, Robert made the a musical journal called "Neue Zietschrift fur Musik.""(which is also known as New Journal for Music) Robert Schumann was the editor and leading writer for the journal for 10 years. Around 1835, Robert Schumann fell in love with his former piano teacher's daughter.
