The Merriam-Webster's definition of religion "is a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith." A theologian defines truth as what is printed in holy text. Religion reflects on issues privately, exchanges information by assurance and assertion, discusses awkward points by warfare, terror and coercion , and builds up a network of conflicting ideas that conceals ignorance under a cloak of empty ideas. Science reveals where religion conceals. .
Science respects the human intellect and religion belittles it. Religion speculates wildly and is never put to the test except maybe beyond the grave. It's hard to believe in a faith with such conviction when it is at constant odds with other faiths. Several illogical assertions include life after death, the soul and the existence of evil in a world created by an infinitely loving god. Christianity discredits Judaism, Judaism discredits Islam, Islam discredits Christianity and the vicious cycle of hatred has continues to evolve today. When Christians are not fighting amongst each other such as Protestant versus Catholic and Catholic versus Baptist, they shift their focus to Science. A lot of credibility in religion has been lost due to Catholic priests being convicted of molestation; Baptist ministers being charged with adultery and money making scams; and of course the Islamic backed extremist groups causing terror all over the world. When conducting a search on MSN of the keywords priest, molest and conviction, over 50,000 pages of results were found with descriptions of priests being convicted of child molestation not only in America, but as far away as India and Hong Kong.
