The Guys!

The relationship between a father and son is considered sacred. A father should support his children, love them, teach them his ideals, and help his children become the best they can be. In Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the relationship between a man, Willy Loman, and his sons, Biff and Happy, is scrutinized. As time progresses, the relationship degenerates further and further. In my opinion, Willy is mainly to blame for the failure of his sons Biff and Happy because of his lack of moral integrity and his inability to accept his sons for who they are.
Willy tried his best to be a good father, but unfortunately he went the wrong way about supporting his children. He made excuses when Biff stole a football from the school and when he stole wood, and this acceptance or approval of the behavior most likely led to Biff's stealing problem as an adult. Willy also never paid much attention to his other son, Happy, as Biff was the recognized football star. Happy was constantly starved for attention and as an adult is lonelier than ever, using women as a temporary fix for a deeper problem. His ignorance of the problem is evident here, when Willy says (insert quote). Willy always taught his sons that popularity, being well-liked, was the most important thing to attain success, because that's what he always lacked, himself. (insert well-liked quote) Believing that his sons already have the key to success, he ends up not teaching them other more important values such as having a good work ethic or being honest. .
The breaking point in Biff and Willy's relationship occurred when Biff discovered Willy cheating on Linda with another woman in Boston, and lying ruthlessly to cover it up. He finally admits that he was (insert lonely quote) and Biff gives up his plans for the future. Why would he want to continue with Willy's plans for him if he found out that the only man he ever looked up to was, indeed, a liar and a fraud? Willy began to descend into denial.
