"A man with out land is nobody", those are the words that Duddy Kravitz has taken to heart. As a hard working business man he starts out for his quest for the perfect land. With out a problem, but because of his temper he seems to have a problem keeping it together.
.
The other characters views of Duddy are divided into two sides some people such as Virgil would say "Duddy can do anything"; other people (most everyone else) has about the same view as his father " my boy was a trouble-maker. He was born on the wrong side of the tracks with a rusty spoon in his mouth- I think that the reason people don't like Duddy is because Duddy was and always has been a good business man; "Some of his stamp business profits Duddy invested in the comic book market." The other reason is that Duddy is rude! To his girlfriend Yvette he says "listen, listen the cats pissin", when she tells him to be fair.
.
I like the character of Duddy because of his drive and ambition he is through out most of the story my age. I know that he had what it takes to be successful in life, even though he failed. I also really like the fact that he never changes through out the entire story. In the beginning he is rude "people fall in love" says Yvette, to what Duddy replies "planes crash too!" (Page 222). And he is a smart businessman "Duddy soon established two fascinating facts . A minor couldn't be sued---- certainly not by an American Company" (page 56). And at the end of the book he is still disrespectful "on my land, no trespassers and no cripples" (page 372). He also still has a knack for seeing a good investment "this place is a gold mine!" (Page 372).
.
Duddy gets his motivation to be obnoxious and relentless by thinking of way to buy "his land" and make his grandfather happy. He never wears a mask in front of any character unless he is trying to make a deal. He acts the same towards his family, friends, girl, bosses ect ect .
