Transportation in Hong Kong

Transportation has contributed to connect our lives together everyday. Hong Kong is a small crowded area with 7 million people. Because of her huge population, a good transport system is essential. As a result, people of Hong Kong depend heavily on convenient public transport. Hong Kong has developed an efficient road network with varied means of transports, so that its transport system can operate more conveniently and efficiently.
First of all, there are different forms of transportation in Hong Kong. The most common are taxis, minibuses and buses. For taxis, the style is the same in the U.S but it's much cheaper, only $1 for a mile. For minibuses, they are convenient because they have stops located at the most populated areas, such as shopping centers, housing estates and most schools. Buses, which are the cheapest transportation, not only have stops in the populated areas, but also carry more people because they have a double deck. In Hong Kong even if you dont have a private car, you can still go everywhere because of these three transports. Another reason why public transportation is popular is that the government discourages the public to own cars by putting high taxes on them. Also, the majority can afford the fare of these kinds of transport. It only costs about $1-$2 U.S dollars for a trip.
In addition, Hong Kong has its own railway system. This system is divided into two parts, one is Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and the other is Kowloon Canton Railway (KCR). The former one is to serve Hong Kong Island and Kowloon peninsular, and the latter is to serve the New Territories (N.T). From N.T going to Hong Kong Island takes only half an hour. These two railways connect Hong Kong entirely. The railway stations are located in the most populated areas. Furthermore, it also permits people to travel into Mainland China directly within a short period, from N.T to Guangzhou only takes one hour.
Apart from the different means of transportation, Hong Kong has a well-developed transportation network.
