Anne Bradstreet

Anne Bradstreet is a pioneer; she broke through for the women of today to have the freedom of speech in the form of poetry. Anne was the first woman poet for America; she was a Puritan poet that did not always share Puritan beliefs in her poetry. Although she did express herself as a Puritan, her writing is not always considered to be a pure Puritan style. Anne in the writing of "To My Dear and Loving Husband" shares her love to her husband in a manner, which is not a pure Puritan style; she has this deep love for her husband, almost an absolute love towards her husband, loving everything about him. And it seems from a perspective that she loves her husband almost as much as she loves god. .
As a Puritan she would be questioned about this poetic writing towards her husband, because she should not really care as much as she does for her husband and more towards god, because it is a sacrifice that the Puritans expressed. The Puritan belief was to leave Everything, and give all love towards god, and not really caring for anyone with such a strong desire and a passion as Anne expresses in her writing to her husband. In another writing "Upon the Burning Our House" Anne shares some more of her questionable poetic style but devotes it to the burning down of her home. This piece of poetry by Anne is questionable in the way she feels to the burning of her home. The pure Puritan would not care as much towards the valuable items in her home as Anne does. She feel that she has lost everything, but in Puritan belief, even if you do lose everything she shouldn't care as much for God will provide her with everything she needs, if she devotes herself fully to God and his grace. .
Anne was a Puritan, but many feel that she was not a pure Puritan, her poetic pieces illustrate how she had some different beliefs. Her writings also show how she is more of a "today-like" person, caring for her possessions and family more than the pure Puritans who sacrificed these items and people for God and the grace that the Puritans thought that he would provide.
