Personal strengths and weaknesses, these are things that I have had the opportunity to uncover within myself. When I first started in the IT field six years ago, I had the privilege of working with an engineer who taught me about the benefits of realizing your strengths and weaknesses. It was his philosophy that the only way to improve a weakness was to first understand what the weakness was, and then set goals for yourself to improve. I have been following this method since that day. This method helped me to turn what I felt used to be my biggest weakness, which was that I was a follower. Into what is now my biggest strength, my ability to be a leader. The ability to be a leader has helped me in every aspect of life. At work it gave me the confidence I needed to become a Lead Engineer. I also hope that this will be a benefit to my learning team, if we seem to be heading in the wrong direction my leadership skills we help me to guide the team back on course. .
Another strength I have is in my ability to learn new tasks quickly. This is talent that is most helpful in my personal life. Being the father of a nine-month-old daughter, I need to learn new things everyday. This is also a talent that is tested all the time at work as well, my boss realized this talent and has been using since my first day on the job. If a new client calls with some infrastructure equipment that we have never configured before my boss's first response is, send Leon. I always view this as a complement that my boss has the confidence in me to send me out site unseen to a customer. This is something that I enjoy because I always get to go out and touch equipment that I might not other wise ever see. This has given me the ability to make it through numerous layoffs because I have the ability to perform various tasks with minimum supervision. .
The last strength I feel is important enough to talk about is my ability to train others and perform knowledge transfer.
