Technology's most popular invention, the internet has manipulated naive children into danger and corruption. The Internet has paved the way for predators to collect their prey within 4 simple clicks on their mouse. .
The internet is allowing pedophiles to network, to go into chat rooms and lure our youth into sexual acts, and even into meeting them offline. In an American survey of 10,800 girls aged from 12-18, nearly 60 percent have engaged in "cyber-sex" and a disturbing 24 percent have met someone in person after meeting them online. No doubt in my mind these pedophiles have the capacity to rape, and even kill their vulnerable victims. The internet is encouraging these despicable humans to get lost into their unjustified "fetishes." Predators are known to be smart, and can get information from children without them even realizing it. Parents need to wake up and smell the tragic reality of what could happen to their children. We all have said, "It wouldn't happen to me," but it can, and we can take charge before the lives of our youth are at stake. As long as the internet consents to predators to join forces with other fellow predators and entice children, the corruption won't end.
The hormones of a pre-teen tempt them into the internet world of pornography. Eighty-five percent of teenagers admitted their parents actually didn't know what they did on the internet, which correlates to an estimated seventy percent of all pornography ends up in the hands of our once innocent children. Parents should place the computers in a family area instead of their bedrooms where it is more likely to happen. Anti-pornography filters such as "NetNanny" can also be an easy solution. Communicating with your child is statistically one of the best ways to teach them right from wrong and ironically, most parents don't take the time to try and open them up. Morals and religion are slowly deteriorating from our society, and the internet is one of the causes.
