My Delicate Heart Condition

How do you think Harriet feels when she overhears the camp counselors and learns that she is "an underprivileged kid"? Why do you think she feels this way?.
Have you ever heard something that changed your life? Things that people say can be cruel but they can also be of assistance in everyday life. Usually when people speak there mind they do not say it directly to the person in question. In "My delicate Heart Condition" Harriet, the main character, takes her yearly leave to a summer camp. When Harriet arrives at camp she meets a new friend, Willie, who will change her life forever.
When Harriet overhears the camp counselors and learns that Willie has a rheumatic heart she does not understand. Taking the counselors wording the wrong way she comes to the conclusion that Willie has a romantic heart. Later that night a camp counselor was scaring the kids with spooky stories. Willie's heart was very fragile and he could not take the fright of the story, and his heart started to bother him. The counselors took Willie to the infirmary were Harriet overhears the counselors discussion. "There all underprivileged children" said the counselor that had almost scared Willie to death. Harriet assumed that she was an underprivileged child as well and her heart had problems too! .
After coming back from camp and thinking about what that camp counselor said she decided to take it easy and not destroy her heart. Little did she know she was wrong, her heart was completely normal. Harriet goes on with her life changed forever. When Harriet heard those four words coming out of the counselors mouth she thought that maybe that the camp was for underprivileged children. Having felt this way Harriet tries to ease her life and become more ladylike then she had been before her trip to camp. Even though Harriet she sees her self as an underprivileged child she will never really know what a real underprivileged child feels like.
