There are three main types of wine: table wines, sparkling wines, and fortified wines. I will be focusing mainly on table wines because they make up the majority of wines on the market. Most table wines are white, red, or pink.
Wine is made from grapes. The taste of the wine has much to do with the type of grapes that were used. They influence the wine's flavor, acidity, alcohol content, and its color. White wine is made by crushing the grapes and then the juice is separated from the skins. .
In red wine, the grape juice ferments while it is in the grape skin. The pink colored wine is made from red grapes that were not fermented with skins.
Table wines have an alcohol content level from 10 to 14 percent.
The making and drinking of wine goes back to about 8,000 years ago. In Greek mythology, there was a god of wine. His name was Dionysus. The Roman god of wine was Bacchus. In the early 1900's alcoholism got a little out of hand. The sale of alcohol in the United States became illegal during the Prohibition movement. People just made their own wine illegally, so the government let alcohol become legal again.
Table wines are mainly consumed at meals and are drunk because people like the taste of wine with their food.
There are many different effects after a person has had some wine. It mainly depends on how much was consumed and what the alcohol content is. One physical short-term effect is that you can not walk normal and start to feel tired. A social effect is that people may talk funny and say things that they would not normally say and do things that they would not normally do. A short-term emotional effect is that the drinker's patience starts to run out and he is easy to anger. If someone drinks too much he will have hangovers and then he won't feel very good emotionally either. Some long-term effects are that alcohol deteriorates the liver. This can even lead to death. If someone was drinking and got drunk and then went for a drive they could get in a car accident and be permanently injured.
