Why All quiet on the Western Front will be a superior movie.
With the film being narrated by Paul Baumer, such a war movie would have a most personal touch on audiences in much of an extensive way. Although the book is more anti-war, than pro war, supporters of war, and protestors of war would enjoy the movies character portrayal and sub-plots as an interesting look at a sort of "Behind the scenes, " look at war, and it's momentous effect on draftees and their personal lives. .
Imagine taking a seat in the movie theatre and after all the previews and such, the screen is dark, with narration by Paul. "For us lads of eighteen they ought to have been mediators and guides to the world of maturity to the future in our hearts we trusted them. The idea of authority, which they represented, was associated in our minds with a greater insight and a more humane wisdom. But the first death we saw shattered this belief. We had to recognize that our generation was more to be trusted than theirs . The first bombardment showed us our mistake, and under it the world as they had taught it to us broke in pieces."" .
That quote in and of itself is a direct spark to motivate a movie watcher. Being in the German Army, Paul along with his lifelong school friends would embark on a journey with so many unexpected events to change their lives. Deaths, injuries, social conflicts and the German culture are bases for the script, and could easily be inserted and edited for drama effect. Growing up in pre-WWI Germany, same time WWI Germany would be a fascinating depiction, while rendering from the soldier's love lives, to their Christian habits. .
