It was interesting in the book how Julie was consistent with her teaching techniques. She stated how it is disappointing to not see her students come to class everyday but when they do come it is one step closer in reaching out for them. I've learned to not pass judgment on any students to look at them as a blank slate and to try your hardest in starting a new path for them to follow. Like I stated before the picture of the long run needs to stay close to your heart in order for your achievements to come about.
As a teacher I learned that you need to know the history of education and society as well as the different classes you are going to interact with. I feel it is dangerous to have teachers in the system that has no education classes behind them. The field of education needs to focus on the teachers who went to school specifically for that. I know that if I applied to a law firm or business corporation with an education degree they would pass right by my application because I am not qualified enough for the job. I feel the same should go towards teaching jobs. I"m going to use my brother as an example for my reasoning behind that statement. First off my brother has a degree in Exercise Science and is just interested in making money. He only took the teaching job because he knew that was the only opportunity that he could take that would benefit him. They have summers off so that would give him time to focus on what he really wants to do. That is dangerous to me because he is only half heartedly going into this job. He really doesn't care about helping his students and he admitted that to me. Over and over he tells me he doesn't understand why I want to become a teacher because no money is involved. I reply that it is the gratification that makes it all worth while even if it is only a handful of students you reach. The next year it will be a goal to reach more and so on. I am going to be proud to see my students twenty years down the line with their careers and such.
