Teen Preg

(McCuen 64). There is a lack of education about sexual behavior. Some teens see their peers around them participating in sex and they feel they need to follow their behavior. They have never communicated with their parents that there is ramifications to having sex; therefore they go into it without knowing about the complicated feelings and emotions that are attached to sex. .
Teenagers who come from poor neighborhoods are at a high risk for pregnancy. Unwed teenage mothers symbolize a stubborn and disturbing form of poverty in America. ( Luker172). Teens growing up in impoverished environments, with deteriorating schools and dangerous neighborhoods and few opportunities that provide meaning and status in life seem to be a symptom of childbearing. It is poverty that many argue can be avoided by delaying childbearing. Poor mothers tend to have children who will themselves grow up to be poor. It is poverty that some feel is brought on by our social welfare system by offers of cash assistance to women having nonmarital births.(Harris 1). More than half of all welfare recipients were teenagers when their first child was born. .
There are often psychological and emotional problems to the inner soul of teenagers that cause them to reach out to anyone for attention. Their lack of self esteem makes it difficult to fit in socially and think for themselves. They usually invest less time in school and end up with a poor education. Some 58% of young women in the United States who receive les than a high school education give birth by the time they are twenty years old. (McCuen 162). It creates a feeling of low expectations for their future. They begin to have a negative outlook on life, and find great security in the home. (Boonstra 2). These girls feel less loved and want more attention. A sense of rejection and inability to deal with self-doubt make it unlikely a girl will say no to sex with a boy who shows her some attention.
