This film, based on the novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien, captures the incredible story that millions have come to know. Through the imagination of Peter Jackson this world comes alive. Through both the breathtaking scenery and the elaborate sets. Although he did not create the beauty of New Zealand, he did select the most wonderful areas that best depict the imagination of Tolkien. He went into tremendous detail when creating the sets of Helms Deep. .
The Battle at Helms Deep which could very well be the largest battle seen ever captured on film is incredible. With over 10,000 Uruk-hai attacking the fortress and hundreds of men and elves defending it. Peter goes into tremendous detail in the construction of this set. Creating a miniature Helms Deep, a digital one, and portions of it for other selected shots. This set bares an uncanny resemblance to the one that Tolkien describes in the book. The scene in which the army of Isengard is poised and ready to attack the great wall of Helm's Deep is especially worthy of notice. .
Over ten thousand Uruk-hai marshaled in front of Helm's Deep, chanting war cries, smashing their lances into the ground and growling like wild animals. Ready to storm the fortress at any moment. The battle is started when a single arrow is launched into the horde and strikes an Uruk-hai. As the Uruk-hai attack we are drawn even more into the battle. With Orcs falling off the wall and men being cut down by the powerful berserkers, it is as if this film was a documentary and not a fantasy film. The creation of this scene is one that truly sets this movie above the bar.
This film also depicts the courage of our hero's.
